do you play the harmonica?

Yesterday in the guitar class, our teacher Carlos surprised us with a little christmas gift: harmonicas!
I remembered that we had one in my parents´ house when I was a child, but I never knew how to play. Well maybe I´ll give it a try now (-;

Ayer en la clase de guitarra, nuestro profe Carlos nos sorprendió con un pequeño regalo de navidad: ¡harmónicas! Recuérdo que teníamos una muy vieja en casa de mis padres cuando era pequeña, pero nunca aprendí a tocar. Quizás lo pruebo ahora (-;

winterly blog header

Time for a new blog header! It´s a detail from a painting/collage of a winterly forest with a christmas star. I did this to use it for my christmas cards I sent to my friends 2009. The forest reminds me of the forests of my bavarian home country! In fact where I live and what I see daily is very different. It is just that I carry those forests inside and the time before christmas makes me feel more homesick and I visualize myself wandering through those forests, smelling the winter there and drinking mulled wine.

Felt pen outdoor sketches

Sometimes I take a sketchbook with me all the times and draw a lot. Then may pass by months without sketching anything. Some months ago I started a little sketchbook to do drawings outside with felt-tip pens. I am exploring different ways to use them: in colour blocks and layers, more scribbly or more reduced, finding patterns and shapes. The last one is what I most would like to achieve and what most difficult is for me. I want my drawings to be more precise, calm, balanced, elegant.
I admire the work of artist Jill Bliss.

Purple

Last day 7 days/7 colours with Purple.
This is a detail from the Maroccan patchwork tapestry which is my bed-head. Blues and purples dominate, although you can also find reds, greens and yellos. It´s the only oriental decoration element I have in my small flat, but I love it.

Isn´t it incredible that the weekend is over again?
What did you do?
My weekend was quite a cultural one. I went to the Prado Museum to have a guided visit to this amazing tableau and today to see this phantastic exhibition.

Dark blue

Dark blue is today´s colour.
Sometimes I dream of a big country kitchen where I would cook preserves and store them in preserving jars!
**

Light blue

7 days/7 colours: today´s colour is light blue.
Here in Madrid we have almost every day a really beautiful blue sky. Madrilenians have a typical proverb that says, "from Madrid to heaven"!
And look how the city is already preparing for christmas: streets and plazas are decorated with feastful ilumination. However the lights won´t glow until 25th november. The turning-on of the lights is an official event in presence of the governing mayor. Due to the economical crisis there are much less lights than before and the lightbulbs are now LED.

Green

Today´s colour: green. I love green!
I arrived home late, so before I go to bed just a quick look around the flat for something green...maybe the right time to tell you that I am rather sleazy: this green sporty cotton bra was already hanging there on the entrance door. Do you believe me if I tell you that I bought this bra (together with the same panties which I throwed away years ago...) at least 15 years ago? Actually I wore it the other day for the first time in ages!
**

Yellow

7 days/7 colours: today it´s YELLOW.
Ok, I looked around...but I already knew the yellow thing: of course it had to be my beloved birdy!
Say hello to Curry, or as I like to say, my "Schatzilein"!
**

Orange

Second day of Wilma´s photography challenge: orange!
I thought I wouldn´t find anything, but after only 5 minutes looking around my flat I had so many (too many!) orange objects I could hardly believe it. I´ve chosen to do a family portrait of my orange beauty products: say hello to Mrs. Arnica-hand-and-nail-oil, little Carrot-oil-face-moistener and Mr. Tinted-cream!
**

Red: Pomegranate soup

Those who know me well know that I love cooking, celebrate my meals and go in for food in general.
The other day I found in one of my beloved cookbooks a recipe for a pomegranate soup. As I had pomegranates at home and was in the mood for soup it was the perfect discovery! I didn´t cook it exactly as written in the recipe but used it as an inspiration. The outcome was really yum: nice red colour, easy, sweet-sour and a little spicy.

This is also my first entry for the photo challenge over on Wilma´s blog - 7 days, 7 colours!

**

a birthday card for my nephew

On 5th of november is the 4th birthday of one of my nephews in Germany. Today I went to the post office to bring a birthday present on the way. Of course the artsy aunt also put a little self painted card into the package. I had fun this morning painting, whittling and sticking. I was in quite a hurry, so when I walked out the post office I remembered that I had forgotten to give the sun a face!
