today a quick composition, this time with very washy colours and thin layers. i am not at all satisfied with the result, i can do this better. but it is what came out today. so who cares? if you´re hungry, how about the kind of fried egg right in the middle?

sitting in the metro today i found an envelope hidden in my notepad with postcards of kandinsky paintings i bought in munich around christmas. i took one of them as an inspiration for today´s painting. another abstract composition with this weeks colour palette. see also the inspiration postcard below.

decided to stick with the same colour palette during the whole week. although on paper it comes out very differently. today only a quick and random painting, all shapes came up spontaneously. i apologize for the bad image quality, my camera seems to abandon service and the paper pad is too big for my scanner.

he decidido de seguir con la misma gama de colores durante toda la semana, aunque en papel salen muy diferente. hoy solo una pintura rápida y espontánea, todas las formas iban así surgiendo. perdonad la mala calidad de la imágen, mi cámara parece ir muriéndose y el bloc de papel es demasiado grande para mi escáner.

as i started 2 days late for the daily painting project, i started today nº 1 + nº 2 at the same time. nº 2 is finished now, too. and i´ll go to bed...it´s sooo late again. i am such a night owl...tomorrow, i have so much to do..dentist, preparing and teaching a german class outside the city in a big company, a workshop at night (on self-development)

como he empezado con 2 días de retraso el proyecto de daily painting, he empezado nº 1 + nº 2 a la vez. nº 2 está terminado ahora también y me voy a la cama...otra vez tan tarde. soy tan noctambula...mañana tengo tantas cosas que hacer..ir al dentista, preparando e impartiendo una clase de alemán fuera de la ciudad en una empresa grande, un taller por la noche (sobre desarrollo personal)

i am late to start with the daily painting project i´ve joined together with dana - but better late then never! although i wanted to do quick paintings and usually i paint more loose and organic shapes, today i was drawn to experiment with squares and rectangles, totally new for me but i am having fun! you can turn around the painting as you like.

Punch and Judy show

Last year for christmas I went (like every year) to my parents´ house. One day before christmas eve my mother told me that she had the idea to give my niece a Punch and Judy show and that Dad already was working on it...

so once my dad had build the frame, I locked myself up in a secret place, in order that my niece couldn´t find me, to paint the theater.

Mum did the curtains out of teatowels. My niece really loves her Punch and Judy show!

En navidad el año pasado me fui a casa de mis padres (como todos los años). Un día antes de nochebuena mi madre mi dijo que estaba pensando en regalarle un guiñol a mi sobrina y que papá ya estaba trabajando en ello...

una vez que mi padre terminó de construir el marco, me encerré en un lugar secreto, para que mi sobrina no me pudiese encontrar, para pintar el teatro.

Mamá hizo las cortinas, que están hechas de toallas de cocina. ¡Mi sobrina adora su guiñol!

 I still like this painting very much, because of the alikeness I wangled and the atmosphere that reflects the moment the painting was created. Of course a very private moment, but I think the calm and aesthetics of this image is worth to be shared.

Todavía me gusta mucho este cuadro. Creo que conseguí en él un fuerta parecido con la persona retratada y con el ambiente del momento en el que fue creado. Por supuesto un momento muy intimista, pero creo que el sosiego y la estética de la imagen son dignos de ser compartidos.

an Audrey portrait & Leon Golub exhibition

I painted this portrait of Audrey Hepburn about 5 years ago. My former boyfriend adored her and I painted this as a present for him. It´s about three years now that I haven´t seen this painting and I just recovered it recently on a CD with photos. Hey, and I still like it! - I am thinking about doing some portraits of celebrities, because I find this a great excercise, because alikeness is more measurable. What do you think of this idea? I´d really like to paint BB or Sophia Loren...

On Saturday I saw this exhibition in the Palacio de Velázquez in Madrid´s Retiro Park (organised by Reina Sofía Museum). Leon Golub´s work is very interesting! There was one room with portraits of politics - mainly 20th century dictators. I found this so inspiring! Ok, I see, famous actresses´ portrais and dictator´s portraits don´t have much in common, but I hope you get the idea...

Pinté este retrato de Audrey Hepburn hace unos 5 años. Mi entonces novio la adoraba y era un regalo para él. Hace tres años que no he visto este cuadro y lo reencontré el otro día en un CD con fotos. ¡Y todavía me gusta! - Estoy pensando en pintar algunos retratos de famosos. Más que nada porqué creo que puede ser un buen ejercicio, ya que el parecido es más medible. ¿Qué opináis? Me gustaría pintar a BB o a Sophia Loren...

Este sábado ví esa exposición en el Palacio de Velázquez en el Parque del Retiro en Madrid (organizado por el Museo Reina Sofía). Me pareció muy interesante la obra de Leon Golub. También hubo una sala con retratos de políticos - mayormente dictadores del siglo XX. ¡Me sentí de repente muy inspirada! Bueno, sé que retratos de actrices famosas y de dictadores no tienen mucho en común, pero creo que comprendéis la idea...

Longing for the groove to paint

I wanted to share another painting over here. Together with this painting,  these are the first paintings of what I wanted to turn out into a series. But, then stressy issues in my life happened - finding an apartment, moving- and stopped me from continue working on this series. Since then I have been trying to get back into the groove, but it doesn´t work out. Maybe I should just let it be and start something new...a new kind of series.
I have to confess, that I have a big problem with indetermination. It goes through all parts of my life. Also in my art: do I want to paint big or small size? Figurative or abstract? What mediums do I choose? What inspires me? At the end I get so confused that I find myself unable to do anything and have to quit until the next time. I want to find a way to handle this and to find a way to get into the groove and to paint with more patience. I can´t wait this to happen!

Quería enseñaros también este cuadro. Junto con ese cuadro, son las primeras pinturas de una serie que quería hacer. Pero luego ocurrieron asuntos en mi vida que me estresaban -buscando piso y mudanza- y dejé de trabajar en la serie. Desde entonces estoy intentando de nuevo de recuperar ilusión y ganas para seguir con la serie pero las cosas no fluyen. Quizás debería dejarlo y empezar algo nuevo - una servie nueva.
Tengo que confesar que tengo un grave problema de indecisión. Afecta todas las partes de mi vida. También mi arte: ¿quiero pintar en tamaño pequeño o grande? ¿Figurativo o abstracto? ¿Qué medio escoger? ¿Qué me inspira? Acabo tan confusa que me encuentro incapaz para hacer nada y lo tengo que dejar para la próxima vez. Quiero encontrar una solución como afrontar esa irresolución y encontrarme con ganas y energía para pintar con más perseverancia. ¡Ojalá llegue pronto!

I´d like to share some of my paintings.
This one is 145 x 114 cm and is called "migratory bird". I worked with acrylics, sand and charcoal.
It´s kind of special, as it has a good knowledge of human nature...it showed me in one occasion very clearly that I had to leave a certain place asap!

Me gustaría compartir algunos cuadros.
Este mide 145 x 114 cm y está titulado "ave de paso". Lo trabajé con acrílico, arena y carboncillo.
Para mí este cuadro tiene algo especial, ya que tiene un buen conocimiento de la naturaleza humana...¡me hizo entender en una ocasión de una manera muy clara que tenía que irme de un determinado sitio cuanto antes!

Resolutions - Propósitos

 

Hello there, happy New Year to you all!

I am really not good at resolutions as I never really hold them.

Anyhow for this year my resolution, or better my desire is to try to benefit my time in a better way.
Day and night.
Time for work, time for rest.
I want to be aware of my time and arrange it in a healthier way for me. In a way that allows me to do those small steps I want to do in order to give my life a new direction.

For this IF topic I thought this paintings of a sun and moon fit very well to express the balance between day and night, activity and rest.

They are made with acrylics on chipboard and they are part of the Punch and Judy show I painted for my niece & nephews this christmas.

¡Feliz año para todos vosotros!

No se me dan nada bien los propósitos ya que no suelo cumplirlos a la larga.
Aún así para este año me he propuesto, o mejor dicho deseo aprovechar mejor el tiempo. 
Día y noche. 
Tiempo para actividades, tiempo para descansar. 
Quiero estar consciente del tiempo y administrarlo de una manera más sana para mí. De tal manera que me permita hacer esos pequeños pasos que ojalá vayan cambiando el rumbo de mi vida hacia una nueva dirección.

Para este tema de IF me parecían plasmar muy bien estas pinturas de un sol y una luna el equilibrio entre día y noche, actividad y descanso.

Las hice con acrílicos en tablero y son parte del guiñol que pinté para mis sobrinos estas navidades.
